Dr Vicki Carpenter

Spokesperson on Education

Dr Vicki M Carpenter is a Principal Lecturer in the School of Critical Studies in Education at the University of Auckland. 

She is a registered teacher who has taught and held senior positions in a range of New Zealand schools.

Her research interests centre on schooling in low socio-economic communities and related issues of social justice. The politics of schooling, Freirean pedagogy, issues surrounding heteronormativity in teacher education, and policy/curriculum related matters are also strong interests.

Vicki has co-edited three books; University teaching reconsidered. Justice, practice, inquiry (2010), Ng? kaupapa here: connections and contradictions in education (2008), and Theory in Practice for Educators (2001), and she has published a range of book chapters and journal articles.
